BIOGRAPHY

   BOB GRANT

Bob originally a drummer started playing guitar in 8th grade when a neighbor gave him a beat up acoustic guitar. Immediately fascinated by the instrument he started learning on his own and created original pieces of music. Influenced by Eddie Van Halen, Ace Frehley, Jimmy Page and Tony Iommi; the obsession began.

His first attempt was when he joined a cover/original band named "Deathwish" which lasted throughout high school. After high school Bob laid the guitar down and joined a metal cover band named "Shock" as a singer with Neil Goldberg (x-Annihilator guitarist). A few years and a bunch of bands later Bob decided to take his playing to the next level. He then studied with Berklee graduate Paul DiBartolo (Spread Eagle/MCA Records), now known as Salvadore Poe and guitar extraordinaire Gary Hoey (Surf Dog Records) as well as Berklee Professor's Jon Finn and Joe Stump.

He then moved to Florida to isolate and devote all his time to learning the guitar and taking lessons with anyone he could. After that he moved back to Boston and he was accepted as one of the top 50 guitar players selected to play in the Daddy`s Junky Music 1st and 2nd annual Guitar Competitions.

From there he decided to combine his playing and singing to write original music. Bob made a demo and met bass player Paul. Together with the help of Peter Schwartz (studio drummer) they made new demos and formed local bands "Blackjack Squadron", "Gridlock" and "Deadbolt" over the next 4 years. When singing and playing for "Deadbolt" Bob had a major accident. His right arm went through a glass door and cut an artery and severed two nerves in his right arm disabling his thumb, forefinger and middle finger leaving him with nerve damage. He rehabilitated himself over the next 2 years with therapy and his passion, guitar. In 1999 he then teamed back up with Paul and some acoustic ideas that led to the calling once again of Peter Schwartz to rehearse and record what he once called 13 COLORS OF UGLY. They recorded a 6 song EP called "Cataclysmic Chaos" in 2000 and played throughout New England in 2001. The band arose to unprecedented prominence in the local scene with an uncompromising approach that prided itself on originality and reverence rather than style or trend. Their eccentricity and stubborn insistence on being one of the most intense metal bands from Boston took them to 11 straight months of air play on 94.1 WHJY`s Soundcheck and generated a huge response from 101.7 WFNX, 104.1 WBCN and 107.3 WAAF.

At the beginning of 2002 13 C.O.U. parted ways and Bob took a break to reflect on his musical quest. He decided to go back to his roots and play and record an all-acoustic album, which became "Conflicts". Once that was finished and the fire was fueled, it was now back to the mayhem and the metal. During this break Bob decided to take The Summer Performance Program offered by Berklee College of Music and was entitled a Certificate of Completion on August 8th, 2003. Also in 2003 and 2004 Bob recorded 2 more albums under the working project called "White Knuckle Tight". This was the last of the metal recordings.

In 2005 a new spark was ignited and a new breed of music was born. A mixture of both worlds which led to the acoustic/rock album that is called "Doors of Discovery". A follow up album was completed in the fall of 2007 and released in 2008. There are 4 new tracks at myspace.com/bobgrantmusic that you can listen to from the album "House Of Love". During this time Bob also wrote ALL the Lyrics for 28 out of the 30 songs for 3 albums in the studio band Defcon Monkeys, a heavy alternative rock sound. While writing lyrics for the majority of songs except for 2, he produced the drums/music and songs. Bob was also busy working on acoustic music for the summer release of "Expressions" in 2009. There are 7 demo tracks currently at the MySpace page.

In December of 2009 Bob added 2 more songs to complete his 5th solo album "Expressions". He released the album on Dec. 30th, 2009 and then went back into the studio to re-mixed and mastered the album. It was then released again on April 5th, 2010 and now plans to pursue another acoustic adventure doing cover songs from a wide variety of influences and genres. You can download the new album at BandCamp at: EXPRESSIONS 2010

This next album is entitled "Tributes" and I began recording in June of 2010 in which I have finished two tracks so far. The first was James Alan Shelton's "Lilac Wine" which was a mixture of the way Nina Simone and Jeff Buckley recorded it. The other is the Rolling Stones classic "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" and both have a bluesy twist as well as my own version of the songs. This album will be about songs that I have come to appreciate over the years. These are my interpretations of these works of art. I am also trying to bring something new to these songs or even combining the ideas of different artists takes on the song to create something fresh. You can also listen to these at BandCamp but they are not available for download.

This album was my first attempt at a Ukulele album and was written to be self therapeutic. The songs were written after a 12 year relationship ended. Every word on this album is from my purest thoughts and from the depths of my heart. I have never written anything more deeper than these songs and words. These songs have helped me understand once again that you should always love beyond words. Everyday I live every moment, laugh everyday and love beyond words but also know that it can be gone away in an instance. These songs have helped me understand once again that love is just a four letter word that has no meaning, if you do love than do it beyond words. When you lose your best friend and the love of your life it can impact you in many ways. This album was that way to me and everyday I live every moment, laugh everyday and love beyond words but also know that she has gone away.
Since 2013 Bob has been working diligently on creating multiple albums in the following genres, Ukulele, Folk, Americana, Acoustic Rock and Hard Rock. In May of 2018 Bob started writing a poem after the death of "Chris Cornell". This poem turned into the song "Garden Man" in which started a fire within Bob to create over 100 original songs and 13 albums in the next 24 months. Since 2019 to date the lyrical adventures started and haven't stopped. In 2020 Bob will be pursing Film/TV scores with a Licensing Company in L.A.
